Sunday 12th August saw a rather wet day outside but inside Llantrisant Rugby Club was far from dull and grey. Old and young joined together to enjoy the displays of vegetables, flowers, craft and cooking.
Several competitors attended for the first time, which is always wonderful to see and hopefully their appetite has been wet and they will enter again. In fact Jeff Cook entered for the first time, and won Best in Show for his long carrots.
Mark Ashton with his fabulous dahlia’s excelled in the Flower Classes however best Flower Arrangement went to local first time entrant Terri Bayliss for her bowl of flowers. Ron Jones had most points in show and in the vegetable section. The Richard Palmer Challenge Cup was awarded to John Shugar who has been a stalwart of the show for may years for the best exhibit in tomato classes.
Kathleen Pollard retained her title of best in home baking section. Dick Gooch had a stunning Top Tray display and Llantrisant Gallery’s Becky Williams had a best open arts and crafts exhibit for her felt fish.
The committee would like to thank Judges Keith Sweetzer (vegetables), Mike Davies (Flowers), Chris Jones (Home Baking) and Hannah Jones (arts & crafts) for their time and knowledge in judging the exhibits.
Thank you also to the local businesses that supported the event by donating raffle prizes. Bullring Stores, Butchers Arms Gallery, Coop (Tynant), Delicia Teas, Llantrisant Gallery, The New Inn, Shepherds Pharmacy and Woodland Walk Garden Centre. And local Councillors Glynne Holmes and Allan Matheson for their donations.
Huge thanks to Liz Hargest, Maureen Duncan, Jeff Williams, Allan Matheson and Mike Bourne for organising the event.
